Turkey, Lurkey, Dinner

The big day - it's all been leading up to this, well at least in this house it has. We got up early today so Zach could help move furniture and I could begin cleaning the massive piles of stuff I deemed necessary for this trip. A few hours later the house was ready and the cooking began, minus the 22 pound turkey that Robbie got started on first thing - it was in the oven and roasting by 10:30. We provided the appetizers - crudite platters, bruchetta and crackers and the twentysome friends of Avery and Robbie who attended brought everything else.
And there was some great food - traditional green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, cornbread stuffing, cheesy potatoes, noodles, lots of bread and salads, veg entrees made of seitan and tofu. Lest any of you out there think my veg status deprived Zach - check out the turkey that Rob roasted - moist with herbs and butter.
The guys pushed the tables all together in the living room and covered them with a friend's holiday linens creating a beautiful castle-style dining experience.
And then there was dessert - pumpkin, apple and pecan fruit pies, pumpkin flan, apple turnovers, ice cream and fresh whipped cream to top it all off. We both ate so much that we are still tired today. Much love and thanks to Avery and Robbie who made this visit outstanding, and to Amy and Brian, who came a long way so we could all spend the holiday together.
